Kristen McMenamy in “Far, Far From Land” by Tim Walker for W December 2013
Kristen McMenamy and Tim Walker team up once again to create an enchanting editorial inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid.
Clad in designer gowns by the likes of Marc Jacobs, Giorgio Armani and Alexander McQueen — with a Kenneth Jay Lane pearl ring serving as a nose ring fit for a mythical underwater beauty — McMenamy takes the plunge for Walker’s latest fairytale story. However, the standout piece is not a couture gown, but rather a mermaid tail created by Florida-based designer Eric Ducharme, known as “The Mertailor.” Using one of 10 different fiberglass molds, Ducharme uses a special type of silicone called Dragon Skin to create a tail, which can take anywhere from five to 10 weeks to be completed.
